Couple Psychotherapy
Love constantly changes because we constantly change. Romantic love, by its nature, brings instability.
Couple psychotherapy begins with a thoughtful and caring approach, designed to help both partners feel understood and supported.
The process, in fact, typically includes two individual sessions followed by one joint session with both partners present. During the one-on-one sessions, each person has the opportunity to share their thoughts, feelings, and concerns in a private, comfortable space. This allows the therapist to get to know each partner as an individual, appreciating their unique perspectives and experiences.
The joint session, on the other hand, allows the psychoanalyst to observe and know the couple. Specifically, he focuses on how the two partners interact not only with one another but also with the couple as a whole, noticing patterns in communication, emotional expression, and how each partner's unconscious feelings influence how they live the relationship and the other.
These initial meetings are all about laying a foundation of trust and mutual understanding. By exploring each partner's individuality as well as their bond as a couple, the analyst creates an environment in which the three participants are constantly looking at each other's perspectives and attempting to find meaning in what happens in the relationship.
Such a setting paves the way for authentic communication, mutual acknowledgement, and generally stronger connection between partners.
